According to some brief online research, Americans spend on average $150 on clothing a month. For a small majority of Americans interested in luxury brand name clothing, that amount can go well into the $1000s/month.

Where does all that money go? Big retailers such as Gap/Banana Republic, luxury clothiers like Louis Vuitton spend most of their money on MARKETING, not materials. Less than 10% of the actual price of a piece of clothing goes into the materials and labor.

So in essence, most Americans who buy clothing, whether for a new school year, a seasonal wardrobe upgrade are spending their hard earned money on “being trendy” rather than the price of quality goods.

Next, let’s think about what clothing consumers like you and me are buying. Usually we need some tops, some bottoms, accessories, and shoes. That generally covers all the types of clothing there are.

The truth is — so much of clothing today is about “branding”. Nike is a great example of this. If you buy a piece of clothing from Nike, you can be sure that it will have the Nike logo on it. But what does this Nike logo represent?

It could represent to your friends that you’re hip, sporty and active. But to others, it could represent the use of Chinese sweatshop workers. It could represent political campaigns they’ve been involved in. It could represent your favorite athlete. It’s important to know that when you wear a logo, you are basically subscribing to that company’s ethos (it’s way of life and doing business). In some cases this could be desirable; in others, not.

We at Fan Made Fits seek to disrupt those two factors primarily. First, with our VIP membership (a small fee every month), you can buy UNLIMITED pieces of clothing within our selection for LABOR costs and shipping. Think about it — we strip away all the extra “costs” involving marketing, high-powered CEO salaries, and deadweight to provide you with high quality clothing at the same price it costs the big stores to make it.

Second, we don’t plaster our own branding on our fashion. Instead, we allow our members, our community to create the message THEY believe in on our clothing. Whatever cause, hobby, passion or message you want to promote — we give you the user the power to create that on clothing.

That’s why our tagline is: Fashion is Passion. Why wear someone else’s ethos on your shirt, when you can wear your own!

In today’s social media-driven society, everyone is realizing that they have a voice. And compared to years past, that voice is stronger than it ever has been. We want our members to use that voice to create a fashion movement that totally changes the way retail works. Rather than a few massive, overpriced brand names, we hope that we can empower tens of thousands, if not more, to create mini brands that people connect with and cherish.

That’s our mission. And we’d be happy to have you onboard!
